Interior Design Starting Timeline: Understanding Lead Times

Interior design is a journey that requires time and planning. Whether it's custom furniture, special-order materials, or coordinating with contractors, the process often takes longer than anticipated.

Here's a general guideline for getting your projects completed by popular dates:

  • Remodeling for Summer: Start in January

    • Wanting to have outdoor living spaces or vacation homes ready for summer time? Starting to plan and design in January is key to having everything done in time.

  • Remodeling for Back to School: Start in February

    • If you’re hoping to have your space finished by August and ready for the school year, starting in February will get you where you want to be.

  • Stylizing for Summer: Start in March

    • Without major renovations to be completed  you may think you can wait to plan for summer. But, with furniture lead times lengthening, starting in March will ensure you have what you need for summer fun.

  • Remodeling for Winter Holidays: Start in April

    • With spring just starting it may feel like winter is too far away to be worrying about. However, contractors schedules fill up quickly and if you have a space that needs to be done before the holidays, April is the time to start.

  • Stylizing for Back to School: Start in May

    • School has just ended in May and most of us are ready to check out for summer. But if you are hoping to have something new next school year this is the time to order it!

  • Stylizing for Winter Holidays: Start in August

    • The holiday season creeps up on us every year, and if you’re not ahead of it, you may find yourself with an unfinished space. With long lead times, stock and shipping issues, getting items ordered in August is your best bet for having the perfect space by December.

Planning for a project to be completed by a different date?

As a general guideline, start remodeling projects 6 months and stylizing projects 3 months before you need them finished.
